Diesel Generators are generally designed to operate on AST D975 number 2 diesel fuel. Other fuels may be suitable for short term operation, if the fuel meets the quality and physical characteristics describe in the above mentioned standard.
Care should be taken in the purchase of fuel and the filling of tanks to prevent ingress of dirt and moisture into the diesel fuel system. Dirt will clog injectors and cause accelerated wear in the finely machined components of the fuel system. Moisture can cause corrosion and failure of these components.
Emergency standby power systems operating at 1,500 rpm around sea level will consume approximately 0.07 gal/hr per rated kW (0.26 liters/hr per rated kW) of fuel at full load. For example a ........
1000kW emergency standby generator will consume approximately 70gal/hr (260 liters/hr) of fuel. 500kW emergency standby generator will consume approximately 35gal/hr (130 liters/hr) of fuel. 50kW emergency standby generator will consume approximately 3.5gal/hr (13 liters/hr) of fuel. 10kW emergency standby generator will consume approximately 0.7gal/hr (2.6 liters/hr) of fuel.
